A Chance for a Child
Some kids miss out on music lessons, sports, art, or summer camp simply because their family can't afford it. Help one child get that chance: donate an instrument or equipment, sponsor a fee, or give your time to a youth program.
How to do it
- Contact a school, youth league, or club.
- Ask what kids need to take part.
- Give equipment, a fee, or your time.
- Let the program pass it on privately.
Why this chance matters
The activities kids do outside of school, like learning an instrument, joining a team, painting, or spending a week at camp, can shape who they become. They build confidence, friendships, and skills that last a lifetime. Yet for many families, fees, uniforms, and equipment are simply out of reach. Helping one child join in is a chance that can echo for decades.
Ways to take this chance
- Donate gear you no longer use. A guitar in the closet, cleats your kids outgrew, or art supplies can go to a school music program, youth league, or community center.
- Sponsor through the program. Many leagues, camps, and lesson programs have scholarship funds. Giving through them keeps the child's family private and makes sure the help goes where it's meant.
- Give your talent. Coach, tutor, teach a craft, or volunteer with an after-school program.
- Work through trusted adults. Always go through schools, programs, and parents rather than approaching children directly.
Only have five minutes? Call a local school or youth program and ask, "What do your kids need most right now?"
Make it fun: Rally your friends or club to collect instruments or sports equipment for one program.
