Treat the Helpers
Think of the people who keep your days running: the mail carrier, the trash collectors, the delivery drivers, the school crossing guard. Leave them a cold drink, a snack, or a note that simply says "Thank you for all you do."
How to do it
- Pick one helper you see regularly.
- Prepare a small treat and a note.
- Leave it where they'll find it, or hand it over.
- Add a smile and a real "thank you."
Why this chance matters
The people who deliver our mail, haul our trash, and bring our packages work through heat, cold, and rain, often without anyone noticing them. A cold bottle of water on a hot day or a thank-you note taped to the mailbox tells them their work matters. Many delivery workers say small gestures like these are the best part of their route.
Ways to take this chance
- The porch cooler. On hot days, leave a small cooler of water and snacks with a sign: "For our delivery heroes. Please take one!"
- The mailbox note. Tape a thank-you card inside your mailbox for your carrier to find.
- Trash day wave. Step outside and wave or call out "Thank you!" to your collection crew. Kids especially love doing this.
- Keep it simple. Sealed, store-bought snacks and drinks are best. Some workers can't accept cash gifts, so stick to treats and kind words.
Only have one minute? Look your next delivery driver in the eye and say, "Thank you, I really appreciate you."
Make it fun: Let kids or grandkids decorate the thank-you sign with drawings and stickers.
